While there are references in the course to graphical interfaces, the focus is on learning to use the command line. Knowing how to use the command line is mandatory for those seeking to become System Administrators, or for those who are maintaining a Web site on a remote server. For those who are developing software for Linux, knowledge of the command line is important, even for those who are developing Android applications. If you are going to root an Android device, knowledge of Linux commands is critical. Diagnosing and fixing problems is much easier from the command line.

This course is the first in a series of courses about Linux. These courses require a fundamental understanding of the Linux command line. As with any subject, learning requires practice. Regular use of the command line reinforces the commands presented in this course.
